IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE
Dance, Choreography, Words - Satoko Fukuda
Music, Cello - Simon McCorry
We often find ourselves conflicted answering yes or no. The resulting emotion takes us to 'nowhere', leaving us unclear and floating. Through dancing comes reassurance, through movement comes certainty.
Performed 14/02/2020 as part of Resolution 2020 Festival of Dance at The Place, London
Satoko Fukuda
Satoko was born in Fukuoka, Japan. She has been dancing as a freelance dancer in UK, France, Italy, South Korea and Japan. Her work About the leaves was invited to perform at Lourdes Danse Festival, Resolution 2019, Dance Festival Croydon and ANIMA MUNDI Festival. Her new work In the Middle of Nowhere is based on her struggle to experience the differences between Asian and Western culture.
Simon McCorry
Born in London to mixed Indian/British heritage, Simon McCorry’s recent work is a rich combination of field recordings, adept loop based compositions and atmospheric improvisations that explore the rich sonic possibilities of the cello. From droning stillness and devastating harmonic simplicity to abstract microtonal atmospheres, his work recalls post-classical greats such as A Silver Mt Zion at their most plaintive and Stars of The Lid at their most majestic.
