photojournal: Steve Davis and Gaz Williams @ The Long Table

Photography by Dom Thompson

Well this was a treat of a night…

World Snooker Champion, DJ and synth wizard Steve Davis together with fellow Bristol dweller Gaz Williams (bassist who has played with the likes of Marc Almond, Carl Barat, David Rhodes and Underworld’s Karl Hyde to name a few) popped down to the Long Table in Brimscombe on Saturday 1st March for a live modular synth set. A true feast for the ears and the eyes as Steve and Gaz set up their modular synths facing one another with experimental, at times pshycedelic visuals projected behind them.

This wasn’t Steve’s first visit to Stroud as he had previously played at the Sub Rooms a few years back with his longstanding DJ partner Kavus Torabi from the band Gong (who is also in the electronic, improvisational group the Utopia Strong with Davis alongside Michael J. York) but this time the records stayed at home…

Support came from Bruise Blood (artist and musician Mike Bourne, founder of experimental rock band Teeth of the Sea) and the Stroud dwelling electronic dance music producer Iridial.

Our regular Good On Paper photographer Dom Thompson went on down to capture the event as part of our photojournal series…
