Finger in the Spring’ is a new ritual for Stroud to welcome in the spring and nurture our creative fertility as we leave our dark winter hovels behind and look to the brighter days ahead. There will be a procession of folk music, song and dance making its way to a nearby holy well to charge our artistic appendages for the year to come by dipping them in the earthly waters of one of Stroud’s natural springs. The procession shall conclude at The Prince Albert where there will be more Morris dancing in the garden with Boss Morris, and a set of traditional music from Goblin Band - a young six piece folk music group born of the London folk scene, playing traditional music from the folk canon of the British Isles and abroad with an occasional early music flair. BBC Folk Award nominees Bird in the Belly are a Brighton-based folk group. Studio 18 in collaboration with Global Beats brings the return of Anarchy Arts. While the usual chaos of paint and charcoal will ensue, this time the emphasis is on the revered vinyl - or in this case, your revered vinyl. In a true self-governing approach, they invite you to bring along a selection of your favourite tunes to throw down; and if you dare, why not bring an instrument, be it a conch, cello, guitar, trumpet or a pair of spoons for the later moments of the night. Anarchy Arts is experimental in its format with the aim to have creative fun, meet some lovely folks and dance or paint the night away. No need to be musical or creative, the audience is just as important as the maker! It all kicks off around 8 but if you want to pop in early to have a little creative chat we’ll be there from 7.
