THE PRINCE ALBERT
SUN 14TH Sam Brookes
Sam Brookes returns to the Albert for his second gig of the year playing music from ‘Black Feathers’. His soaring, multi-octave voice – often compared to Tim Buckley – stands as one of the most expressive instruments in British music. Folk-meets-jazz twisting and turning at the outer reaches of the singer-songwriter role, his music is confessional in the most explicit way – and new album Black Feathers is as honest as it gets.7pm £15
MON 15TH Becky Dellow
Fiddle player and musicologist Becky Dellow returns to her old musical stomping ground to launch her debut solo album: Take Her Out And Air Her. Becky’s mellow, beautifully crafted arrangements and repertoire, learned over a lifetime of playing, have been further shaped by more than a year studying the fiddle with Martin Hayes, one of the most significant talents to emerge in the world of Irish traditional music, with whom she shares a love of tune histories and traditional music research. For the launch, Becky is joined by virtuoso guitarist Kit Hawes. 7pm £10
THURS 18TH Sheelanagig
For over a decade Sheelanagig have brought their array of foot-stomping folk tunes to audiences across the globe. And tonight they rock the Albert with their wild fun and abandon. A quintet with a well-stocked armoury of stringed instruments – guitar, fiddle, double bass - added with the rhythmic energy of flute and drums and a bagful of joint-jumping tunes, these boys from the South-West England create a real dynamic which is inherent in both their furious dance medleys as well as their interestingly arranged original pieces. 7:30pm £14
